Discussion

This was the first of four spits, excavated in an attempt to define the complex sequence of enclosure ditches at the north-western corner of area 12AD. They were located along the western edge of the dry valley, and were sealed by a layer of hillwash. The material removed was a sandy silty loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3) with 10% chalk inclusions. Daub fragments occurred throughout, but no charcoal flecking was noted.
